Davis Davis Halifax County Sheriff's Office

A Roanoke Rapids woman allegedly used a Bible to smuggle cigarettes and matches to an inmate this morning.

Detective Tyree Davis of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Maria Elliot Davis left the Bible at the county jail for the inmate shortly after midnight.

Jail matron Yvonne Benjamin checked the book and found several loose cigarettes and matches.

The detective told rrspin.com the contraband was stored in the spine of the Bible.

Davis was charged with providing tobacco products to an inmate and was jailed on $1,000 bond. She has an October 6 court date.
