Merritt said Deputy J. Sealey responded to a report of a breaking, entering and larceny on Twin Cedars Road outside Roanoke Rapids.
During his investigation Deputy Sealey learned the victim was missing a 32-inch flat screen television. During a follow-up with neighbors and witnesses in the area, Deputy Sealey developed a suspect.
After locating Antione Pierre Pierce, 35, of the Roanoke Rapids area, Deputy Sealey gained enough information and probable cause to charge Pierce with the break-in.
Pierce was charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, obtaining property by false pretense and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense.
Pierce was jailed on $50,000 bond and the case remains under investigation.
Also on Thursday, Deputy G. Teal responded to the Ringwood Road area outside Enfield to investigate a report of a stolen vehicle.
While gathering information on the crime, Deputy Teal learned the victim left his 1992 Honda Accord in the driveway when he went to sleep.
When the victim awoke he found his car keys and cell phone missing along with his car.
While investigating, Deputy Teal found out the victim had someone stay at his residence, David Jermaine Ward Jr., 17, and that Ward was also gone when he awoke. “Through great cooperation with the Wilson Police Department, the vehicle was found abandoned in the neighborhood Ward resides in,” Merritt said in the news release.
Deputy Teal obtained warrants on Ward for larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and misdemeanor larceny.
Ward is still being sought and anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact local law enforcement, the sheriff’s office at 252-583-1991 or Halifax County Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
