The Advanced Criminal Enforcement Unit of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department made the stop shortly after 3 p.m.

Ricky Douglas, 18, was charged and a handgun was recovered, according to Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek.

Bail was set at $2,000 and Douglas has a November 10 court date.

Bondarek encourages members of the community to call the police department at 252-533-2810, 911 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444 when they see suspicious activity. “That’s how they get more done. It’s nice to have the community work with us.”
