The five people were caught after a Roanoke Rapids police officer spotted them leaving the store, Captain Andy Jackson said.
They are believed to wanted for similar Wal-Mart thefts at stores across the state.
Jackson said police received the call shortly before 8:30 p.m. and as officers Mike Moseley and Daniel Jenkins investigated inside, Officer Duane Daniels spotted the vehicle reported by Wal-Mart loss prevention at the stop sign at Arby’s.
He discovered the driver, Bayon Malloy, 41, of Wilmington, was wanted for driving while licensed revoked.
Malloy was charged with attempted larceny and felony conspiracy and jailed on $7,500 bond.

Others arrested and charged with attempted larceny and felony conspiracy were:
John Graham, 25, of Wagram, who was jailed on $5,000 bond.
Shaquan Harris, 17, of Wagram, who was jailed on $2,500 bond.
Joseph Clark, 20, of Laurinburg, who was jailed on $5,000 bond.
Alice Graham, 27, of Wagram, the owner of the car, who was jailed on $5,000 bond.
They have January 19 court dates. Two HP desktop computers valued at $896 were recovered.
