Moran Moran Halifax County Sheriff's Office

The four people charged in a stabbing in the Edgewater subdivision outside Roanoke Rapids have been extradited to Halifax County and are in custody.

Major Bruce Temple of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the female victim, who was beaten and stabbed more than 20 times is recuperating well after being left for dead in an isolated part of the subdivision.

He said the stabbing was the carrying out of an alleged plot to kill the woman, who is from Jarratt, Virginia.

Temple said investigation revealed the motive in the case was related to drugs but declined elaboration.

The plan was allegedly to kill the woman in Virginia and dispose the body in North Carolina. They allegedly planned to return to Virginia to destroy evidence.

Temple said investigators verified the victim went to the suspects' residence in Emporia, where they all lived together, with intentions of riding with them to visit one of their relatives in North Carolina.

After a stop in Roanoke Rapids, two of the suspects, Timothy Moran and Toni Draper, traveled to the secluded section of Edgewater and the victim was abruptly attacked and allegedly repeatedly stabbed by Moran.

The suspects left the victim next to the roadway and eventually went back to Emporia, removed the victim's car from their property and took it several miles away to a secluded area. Temple said further evidence was destroyed in the case.

The victim managed to crawl several hundred feet to a residence and get help.

Investigation led to the arrest of Moran and the others by members of the Greensville County Sheriff's Office.

The four all waived extradition to North Carolina Tuesday in court and were transported to Halifax County that evening.

Moran is in jail without the opportunity for bond and is charged with attempted first degree murder.

Lauren, Toni and Jerry Draper III

Lauren Draper, 22, has been jailed on $500,000 bond and faces charges of first degree attempted murder and conspiracy and Toni Draper faces the same charges as Lauren and has the same bond.

Jerry Draper III, who is Toni's husband and Lauren's brother, was charged with accessory after the fact to conspiracy to commit murder and was jailed on $500,000 bond.

Temple declined to discuss where on her body the victim was stabbed and whether a weapon was recovered. He did say the four have expressed remorse but declined to comment further.

The only thing worse than evil is the indifference of good people.

People up here have some nerve judging others when they don't even know them. Toni Draper sits in that jail crying everday because she misses holding her children. She is a good girl who has made some mistakes and hung out with the wrong people. She did not stab that girl & she was scared to come forward for fear of her life. So who are yall to judge her when you don't even know her? Please leave God's work to Him!

I know I am seriously sick to death of this sort of statement. Bubba is a nice boy, sissy is a nice girl, a good mom, a good dad, a good son, a good daughter, a good whatever. For goodness sakes, it takes PERSONAL CHOICE to put yourself in a position of commiting or participating in a crime. You stop being "nice" when you decide to commit a crime. If you were a good boy or a good girl, a good parent, a good spouse, your butt would be working a job every day, going home to your kids, your spouse, your extended family, paying your bills, paying your taxes, and leading a quiet, dull life. You would be so tired from working, you would not have time for foolishness. Personal responsibility is just that - personal - make the choice. Stop taking up for people who decide to commit crimes. I live every day without feeling the need to stab my fellow man or woman. I live every day without picking up a crack pipe. Get real!

It's amazing that you can even attempt to portray any of these people as victims. It doesn't matter if they wielded the knife or just stood by and let it happen, but it's pretty obvious that there was planning and premeditation here. Maybe she should have thought about her children BEFORE she participated in this crime?

First lets establish this that term "hanging" that may be offensive to some cause that can go a little bit deep. Instead i have a better suggestion. How about the criminal or criminals get escorted out of court after convictons with 3 armed officers or whoever and get shot down REPEATEDLY!! how about that for a political view!!

on the issue of the four involved in the stabbing off of thelma road.... if convicted, we simply need to go back to public hanging for people convicted of crimes like that. I think nations like england, and the u.s. in earlier times had it right back then for these types of criminals. they don't deserve to sit in our prison system and be fed, and watch tv for the rest of thier life on our tax dollars. But for political reasons, I bet this opinion want get posted.
