The shooting occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. when Michael Bernard “Mike Mike” Ponton Jr. allegedly shot several times into a vehicle occupied by three women, striking one in the leg.
Lieutenant James Avens of the Weldon Police Department said the shooting allegedly stemmed from an argument between a female relative of Ponton’s, who was standing outside, and a female in the vehicle.
Ponton at some point came from a wooded area and began firing into the air and into the vehicle. The victim was treated and released from the hospital.
